Holy Moly!! As a vegetarian I learnt right at the beginning that many people have different opinions than you and that if you want people to respond in a positive manner (and hopefully become a vegetarian or vegan too) you have to be a bit diplomatic about things. I can't believe this once vegan is actually attacking doctors and researchers for promoting a healthy lifestyle without harming animals. It works both ways, if Tanya wants people to listen to her she has to be a bit diplomatic too! I'm gobsmacked .... it's pretty clear she wasn't a vegan for the animals, sounds to me like it was something 'cool' to do and a way of getting attention (and believe me I've met many of those kinds of vegans here in Sydney, Australia), and now, this 'support group' is a way of getting more attention. Some people are such morons! I have many meat eating friends who will never become vegetarian or vegan, so I just let it go ... sometimes they bring it up though and want to know stuff so we have a bit of a yarn but patronizing someone for their lifestyle choices won't help. If I can find her support group on the internet I will be telling her this myself!

On another note, I defected for about 12 months after being a vegetarian for four years (before that I lived on the farm and killed my own animals for food) and I found it was from peer pressure and convenience. I had a man friend staying with me and he insisted on eating meat and I found it was easier to just cook it all up together (and to avoid the nagging about why don't you eat meat, it's good for you etc). At first I only ate non-grain fed beef (the majority of cattle are still out in the paddock here in Australia) and then i slowly went to eating free range chicken and seldom free range pork. I still felt the guilt and every time I ate, pictures of the cruel farming practices came into my mind. I am now back to being a vegetarian and I feel a whole lot better physically. I have more energy and I feel less bloated and more lively and I tell every meat eater who wants to listen that as a vegetarian I feel a whole lot better physically. Meat eaters are surprised to hear this and are much more likely to be interested in the idea of vegetarianism if you approach it this way. Such are the fallacies of eating meat. Oh, and yeah, I'm an attractive, blonde too =)

I had a pet chicken named Brocky. I wish all humans could know how much they're like the other animals on this planet... unfortunately, these things aren't usually taught in school or by parents. You're a kind man, mr. Grillo.
