Angelica was found wandering the city streets of Chicago and was picked up by Chicago Animal Control and Care late last Wednesday night. A dedicated Chicago animal rescuer, Melissa Pena, got her out of there on Thanksgiving day as staff would be minimal over the holiday weekend, and CACC kills animals shortly after they are picked up if no home can be found. Melissa contacted us to alert us of Angelica’s urgent need for medical attention and a safe home.
We immediately discovered that Angelica’s beak had been horribly amputated, affecting her breathing and eating abilities. She was frail, exhausted, very thin and most likely quite malnourished. So we immediately made arrangements with our bird vet, Dr. Sakas of Niles Animal Hospital, to bring her in for an exam, tests and treatments. She is currently in stable condition but will need lots professional attention over the days to come.
Our deepest gratitude to those who have already made a donation to help cover Angelica’s urgent medical care and special attention. If you have not made a donation and would like to help her out, we are still accepting donations that will go specifically to cover the costs of her care. See the donation button at the top of the right sidebar. Thank you in advance!
Look for updates on Angelica soon!
